AMU Aligarh University (AMU) 

Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is one of the oldest and the largest multi-disciplinary public central universities in India. It was originally established as Mohammedan Anglo-Oriental College in 1875 during the British rule. Later it was given the status of the University in 1920. The main campus of the AMU is located in the city of Aligarh, UP, about 130 Kms South-West to capital of India, Delhi. The Aligarh Muslim University (AMU) is NAAC accredited top ranked institution in the country, which offers more than 300 courses in various disciplines including arts, social sciences, sciences, management, engineering and medicine. It draws students from all the states in India and from abroad. It has more than 28,000 students, about 1400 faculty members and approx. 6000 supporting staff on its rolls. The university has 12 faculties comprising 113 departments of studies, 3 academies and 15 centres and institution. In addition, University has three off-campus extension centres located at Murshidabad in West Bengal, Mallavpuram in Kerala, and Kishanganj in Bihar. The Faculty of Engineering & Technology offers B. Tech, M. Tech and Ph.D. programme in various branches of Engineering & Applied Sciences. In addition, the Faculty also offers Diploma Engineering, Advance and PG Diploma and 4 Year B.E. (Evening) Degree Course for Diploma holders and a 5 Years Degree Course of B.Arch. The Department of Civil Engineering in the Faculty of Engineering and Technology has been constantly contributing to the cause of engineering education and training since its inception in the year 1942. It has highly qualified faculty supported by well-established laboratories and state-of-art computing facilities. Many research projects sponsored by DST, JICA, European Commission, AICTE, UGC, CSIR, DRDO, CST, MoP, MoEF, IOCL etc. have been successfully completed and many are under progress. The faculty members have published significant number of Research papers in International Journals, National Journals and the Proceedings of various International and National Seminars, Conferences, Symposia and Workshops. The faculty members have also published several textbooks and prepared appreciable number of Technical Reports, Laboratory Manuals and other Teaching Aids. The Department organized two international conferences one in 2009 and other in 2011 in the area of environmental engineering in collaboration with foreign universities. In the last five years 32 National Conferences/Workshops/Seminar/Training Programmes have been successfully organized. There has been tremendous thrust in the consultancy work in the Department in the last five years. In the last 5 years Research Projects worth Rs. 69.79 Lakhs have been completed. Currently Research Projects worth Rs. 15 Crores are going on. In the last few years, a large number of Industrial Consultancy projects have also been completed.

Under FP7, AMU coordinated for India the SWINGS project.

AMU is the Indian Project Coordinator of the PAVITR project and is in charge of 7 of the 14 pilots foreseen: RichWater  SBR, High Rate Algal Pond, Willow System, Short-Rotation Plantation, French Reed Bed, Automated UASB+CW and Fecal Sludge & Septage Mgt.
